5. The Hohokam people had extensive canal irrigation and water-collection systems in place for their crops, making it possible for them to farm successfully in an area with less than 10 inches of rainfall per year!
The Hohokam were a Native American civilization living in what is now the metropolitan area of Phoenix, Arizona. The Hohokam developed what is considered to have been the most extensive irrigation system in the prehistoric New World. The Hohokam lived in several different villages that are still inhabited today.
